Chanda's Secrets takes place in a 21st century fictional country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Chanda is sixteen and has faced more funerals than a normal person should. After the death of her baby sister, her life takes a drastic change and this girl is forced to become woman and lead the house in place of her sick mother and alcoholic step-father. Even worse, HIV/AIDS is up and about and the people of the country are not facing the facts. In this country, AIDS is like a swear word, and if you utter it, AIDS will be brought down on your family. Chanda's Secrets is a very good book, but has some swearing and sexual references. Otherwise, I think it is a great book. |
