Tough topics: Bucking broncos, cowboys, friendship, love, wild-west, and fighting.
Will Paxton grew up on a farm in Kansas. Will left home at the age of 14 to live out his dream of being a cowboy. When Will gets a job as a cook’s help on a ranch in Montana, he meets a man named Tye Garrett and he decides to go to Texas to start a ranch of his own. On the way to Texas, Will and Tye come across bucking broncos, Indians, thieves, and bandits, but also Will meets a woman named Rebecca. The voyage goes on through rough terrain, wonderful prairies, tall mountains, woody forests, and the wonderful Badlands of Dakota.
My favorite part of this book is when Will, who is now 17, rides a horse, named Widow Maker, who is said to be the hardest horse to break and when Will learns to use the horse’s power against him, he wins 290 dollars and also gets to keep the horse. The beginning of the story is the slowest part because the story is all about Will’s family. When you get past the prologue the adventure and excitement starts.
I think that people of all ages and both genders should read this book. There is something in this book for everyone. The guys would love this story because the main character is a boy and there are many fist fights. For the girls this story has a great love story and it keeps you on the edge of your chair. Once you start reading you can’t put it down. |
