Tough Topics: Bullies, Friendships, Drama, Tragic Accidents In this book a boy named Jesse Oliver Aarons, Jr. (but they just call him Jess for short,) loves to run and on the first day of school, he can’t wait till recess because there’s a big heat (competition). Before the heat a new girl comes and her name is Leslie Burke. After lunch Jess walks up to the other boys ready to beat them all. Leslie crosses the line between the boys and girls side. After a couple of minutes in convincing the boys that she, a girl, wanted to run and not play hopscotch, they let her run and she beats them all. Jess takes this offensive because all summer he’d practice to be the best. After the race, Jess takes a good look at Leslie and realizes that he was being a real foul jerk. After a while they become the best of friends. They main setting is the creek, rope, and Terabithia the land that they ruled. The main conflict is the really bad thing that happens to one of the main characters. The resolution is when Jess realizes that he must help the new ruler of Terabithia be born. My favorite part is when Leslie and Jess have to find the giant’s weak point, when they find the giants weak point they try to find Janice Avery’s weak point so they can ruin her life like she ruins theirs. My least favorite part in the book is when the tragic thing happens. I don’t like this part because it’s really sad. I think some of my friends should read this book because it’s mostly about two friends who love to be themselves around each other and that’s what me and my friends do. I think eight and up should read this because it doesn’t have big swear words and I also think this should be taught in school because it teaches you about bullies and that every thing in life has a weakness no matter how tough they are. Boys and girls could be able to read this but I think mostly girls would read this. I gave this book a rating of five because I think it’s really fun to read about the battles they have with weird animals and the new friends they make. Not only does it have adventurous parts it also has sad parts but I think it’s really fun to read and I would recommend this book to anybody. |
