Tough Topics: Lies, Rebellion, and Loneliness A boy named Luke lives in the future where it is illegal to have a third child. There is this law because of a food shortage in the world that all children born after the second will be killed to save food. The story takes place in the country. Luke lives with his mom, dad, and two older brothers in a farm house until the government turns it into a neighborhood. One day Luke sees a face in the window of the next door neighbors when everyone is gone. He gets curious and goes over to find if there is a kid over there. He finds a girl named Jen who is also a third child. Jen tells Luke about a rally that she is planning to get back at the government and give all third children the right to LIVE! My favorite part of this book is when Luke meets Jen. My least favorite part is when Luke finds out that Jen died at the rally.
I would recommend this book for teenagers because it shows what could happen to the world. This might not be good for younger kids because they might not realize the problem with killing all kids born after the second child. It is a good book for girls and boys because it shows what could happen to us. I think that kids who are born after a second child will like it more because this could happen to them. I give this book a 4. It is a 4 because I really like the idea of the story. I just wish it was longer and explained more about what happened to the world, and when the law happened.

Tough Topics: Population, Friends, Death, Secrets
In Among the Hidden there was a law, the law stated that a family was only 2 kids allowed per family. Luke the main character, well he was a third child, so that means he is illegal…a Shadow Child. This story was set in rural America. The rest of the story just followed Luke around as he hid from the population police, he finds more shadowed kids, they makes plans to try and stop the population law, but will they do it….this is only the first book from the “Shadow Children Series.”
My favorite part about this book is when Luke finds Jen, another Illegal child. They made plans to stop the laws and the police together, but it doesn’t work out so well. My least favorite part about this book is, when Jen dies. They followed there plans and a bunch of children died. So Luke was sad the rest of the book.
Who should read this book? Anyone who likes fiction, or mysteries, you should try this book out. If you like Ironic books this book is for you, no matter what neither gender nor Age. That’s who I think should read this book.
I give this book a 4, because it had a very very interesting lead, That got me hooked onto it. It has a good story plot and Margaret is a very good writer. She has interesting books. I can’t wait to read the 2nd book of the series.
